2026 Legislative Session Begins

[January 11, 2026] | We start our 2026 Legislative session on Monday, January 12. I hope the New Year is off to a good start for you and your family.

It is my privilege to represent the families and communities in District 11, and my focus remains on listening closely and working hard on behalf of the people we serve. Throughout the 2025 legislative session, that focus guided our efforts to return more money to hardworking Georgians, keep costs low, strengthen education, and protect students.

A top priority during the 2025 session was providing meaningful tax relief. Once again, we returned more than $3 billion to taxpayers, putting money back into family budgets and local economies. Permanent reductions to the state income tax rate helped lower the burden on workers, retirees, and small businesses, allowing families to keep more of what they earn.

As chairman of the Transportation committee, we work to put into place a robust agenda that covers Air, Rail, Port, Transit, and of course our Roads and Bridges. I have worked to be appointed to, and serve, on my other committees that affect your life in Georgia: Health, Public Safety and Homeland Security, Agriculture, Education, Higher Education, Appropriations, Regulated Industries, and Rules.

Education remains a priority of the House of Representatives, particularly when it comes to student safety and success. During the 2025 session, significant investments were made to strengthen school safety and expand access to student mental health services, providing schools with additional tools to support students and staff.

We also took steps to improve accountability when students move between schools, helping ensure continuity in learning and support. Finally, the General Assembly passed the Riley Gaines Act, which preserves equal opportunities for female student-athletes.

I have also remained engaged in the work of the Joint Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Insurance Rates and kept a close eye on the 15 other study committees the House and Senate did this fall. Two committees whose work I know you are interested in are on reducing your Homestead Property taxes and the elimination of our state's personal income tax. I look forward to working on this to make living in Georgia even better for us.

Outside the Capitol, we have continued to spend time throughout our district attending community events, visiting schools, and meeting with residents. Those conversations shape the work we carry back to Atlanta and help ensure decisions made at the Capitol reflect real experiences at home.

As the House of Representatives prepares for the 2026 session, the focus remains on issues that matter most to families across District 11. Affordability, tax relief, strong schools, and public safety will continue to guide the work ahead, along with responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars and thoughtful planning for Georgia's future.

I remain committed to being accessible and responsive. I encourage you to visit me at my Georgia Capitol office or call me if you have any questions or concerns regarding the bills, the legislative process, or any other measures considered under the Gold Dome.

My Capitol office number is 404-656-7153. My email is rick.jasperse@house.ga.gov. Thank you for allowing me to serve as your State Representative.
